Belonging to the state of Kentucky, the city of Elizabethtown lies in Hardin County. Acting as the seat of Hardin County, Elizabethtown looks over administrative affairs. It has a population of 28,531 people and is positioned on a total area of 25.8 square miles of which 0.5 square miles is water. Interstate 65 runs through the city and connects it to the neighboring towns such as Louisville and Bowling Green. Hardin County was first set up in 1793 and named after the Colonel John Hardin. The same year, Colonel Andrew Hynes divided the area on streets that would form Elizabethtown. It was formally established in 1797 and was named after his wife.
